8th Grade Girls Basketball
Basketball has been a sport at Gorzycki Middle School for many years. Last year’s seventh grade Gorzycki girls basketball team placed 3rd in the district and are looking for revenge. The tigers have been consistently in the playoffs and hope to continue the streak. Brooke Pesses, Hayley Bodman, and Katie Dewey talked about this season and their stories with basketball.
“I started playing basketball in fourth grade,” Bodman said. “I thought it was really fun, and I used to play with my dad.”
There are 5 positions in the game of basketball. There is a point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. All of the positions serve a different purpose in the game. Katie Dewey described what position she plays in basketball.
“The position I play in basketball is forward,” Dewey said. “I’m really good at jumping and rebounding.”
Gorzycki placed 3rd in the district last year after being knocked out of the playoffs. The girls have been working hard and are looking to win the championship this year. Brooke Pesses explained who their toughest competitors will be this year.
“O’Henry [will be our toughest competitors this year],” Pesses said. “Because they are very talented, and they play hard.”
Basketball is a sport that requires teamwork. This includes passing, setting picks, and doing their part to make the team successful. Strategy is also a part of basketball by putting people at different positions and making plays. Hayley Bodman explained what the most important parts to have a successful basketball team are.
“[In order to have a successful basketball team], we all have to communicate, work together, and not argue with each other,” Bodman said.
After a disappointing loss to O’Henry in the playoffs last year, the girls are back for vengeance. Now, in their eighth grade season, the girls believe that they are better than ever. Katie Dewey described why Gorzycki is going to win the city championship.
“[The Gorzycki basketball team will win the city championship] because we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and we work hard.”
