Twins Take Over Gorzycki

The number of twins at Gorzycki this year has been noticeably more numerous than years past. In the world, 3% of people have either an identical or fraternal twin. Gorzycki currently has over 30 sets of twins attending the school. Eighth-grader Izzy Detrich explains whether or not she likes being a twin.

“I sometimes I like having a twin because I always have someone to talk to,” Detrich said. “ But there are sometimes it gets hard because we have to share everything and we have the same friends.”

It seems only natural for siblings to fight, but some twins seem to get along perfectly. Twins are usually very close, but in some cases, they seem like enemies.  Student Claudia Mccabe explains whether or not she gets along with her twin.

“We do get along most of the time, but sometimes we argue,” Mccabe said. “It’s is usually over some little thing, like whose shirt is whose.”

Some twins have experienced twin telepathy, where it seems like the two siblings have the same thoughts. Twin telepathy is a very controversial topic. There are some people who believe in it and have experienced it, however, some think it is just a mere coincidence. Seventh-grader Lexi Stroud shares her perspective on twin telepathy.

“ I don’t believe in it,” Stroud said. “I have never experienced it so I don’t think it is real.”

It is no mystery that life as a twin is very different from life as a normal sibling. The two siblings spend the majority of their childhood together.  Detrich explains whether or not she thinks about how life would be if she didn’t have a twin growing up.

“Yes I have thought about it, and I think it would be really boring without him.” Detrich Said. “He is really funny and he makes me laugh a lot.”

There are some identical twins who seem like they have no differences. Twins who are identical have an advantage, being hard to tell apart. There are stories about twins who play pranks on others and even switch places. Sixth grader Emma Amoroso shares a time when she and her twin switched places.

“There was this one day where we had a substitute teacher and the day before then, our teacher told us to switch places and see if anyone would notice,” Amoroso said. “We went the whole day without the sub and class knowing.”
