Dubsmash is an app that allows you to take famous quotes from movies or from people and reenact them with your friends or by yourself.

Seventh grader Alina W. explains why she is a fan of Dubsmash. “I like the vine setting on dubsmash because it’s fun to send the funny videos to your friends. Something I don’t like is that I haven’t heard most of the quotes on there and most of them seem to be inappropriate.”

Most people tend to have a favorite quote to ‘say’ but Alina does not. “ I like all of the quotes, so I can’t really choose a favorite because they’re all so fun.”

Seventh grader Zoha R. enjoys using her favorite quote often, “My favorite one is Mean Girls, the low carb diet one.”

Zoha describes how Dubsmash works. “ Dubsmash is a fun way to do stuff from movies and reenact them.” Eighth grader Jack F. describes the app in more simple words, “The app is basically just lip syncing.”

Sixth grader Ava Y. was recently introduced to Dubsmash and has been hooked ever since.” I really like how it is fun and most of them are really funny.”

Although the app has been downloaded 20 million times, many people here at Gorzycki  agree that it has some flaws.

“I wish that there would be a section that you could go where there would be no bad words,” Ava said. Jack gives his opinion on the problems of the app. “ I don’t like that when you store your audios in the app it takes up a lot of storage on your phone.”

Students explain why they think Dubsmash is popular. “Dubsmash is popular because all kids use it and it’s famous quotes,” Zoha said.  Ava thinks that it is not all about the quotes.“Well you can just do your favorite things, be free and have fun,” Young said.

Dubsmash was originally launched on November 14, 2014 in Germany. Shortly after the launch of the app, it  became number one in the app store. January 15, 2015 was when the app was released in America, and the app has been in the top 100 ever since.
