On December 31, the eighth Wings of Fire book, Escaping Peril, by Tui T. Sutherland will be released for purchase.

The series Wings of Fire is about five dragonets of different tribes that have been prophesied to save the world of Pyrrhia after a twenty year long war.

“[I like Wings of Fire because] I feel like maybe there is a lacking in books with strong female characters and Wings of Fire doesn’t have that,” eighth grader Julie L. said. “Tsunami is my favorite because she is tough and I feel like I can relate to her the most.”

In Wings of Fire, each book is written from a different character’s perspective. So far, there are two five-book series.

“[I like Winter Turning the best] because Winter meets his brother and in the Diamond Trials his brother doesn’t kill [Winter] like he is supposed to,” seventh grader Samantha P. said. “Instead, Winter let his brother go and realized that his friendship is important to him.”

The main story line in the first five books is that there is a war between which of the three heirs to the Sandwing throne should be queen. The Brightest Night tells what ‘the war that has lasted twenty years’ outcome will be.

“I was thinking Sunny would become Queen [when I was reading the fifth book],” Julie said. “At the beginning, we didn’t know Thorn, so Sunny was the best choice.”

Samantha thought a more unusual idea most people did not think of.

“I thought that there would be a fourth sister that would become the rightful heir [in the Brightest Night],” Samantha said. “I really didn’t know what was going to happen.”

The third book, the Hidden Kingdom, is about the Rainwing Glory, who is thought of as weak, lazy, and unwanted.

“I like The Hidden Kingdom mainly because Glory doesn’t show emotion in the previous books but in this one you get to see inside her head,” eighth grader Sydney H. said. “I was sad and angry at the Night wings [when I found out that they were capturing and torturing Rainwings].”

In the sixth book, Moon Rising, the main character Moon can read minds and hear other dragon’s thoughts. A once thought to be evil dragon, Darkstalker, talks to Moon through telepathy, so he can persuade her to free him from his prison.

“I think [Darkstalker] has both [good and bad intentions] because it seems like sometimes he is on Moon’s side and sometimes he wants to kill the dragonets,” sixth grader JD S. said.
