*Note* people die in this book and there is a large amount of violence.

Recently I have finished reading the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. My brother recommended it to me quite a bit ago but now I have finally gotten around to reading it, and I am so glad that I did.

The book is about a Hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who is not very fond of travel or adventure. Bilbo is well off and keeps to himself. One day the Hobbit gets an unexpected visitor , a wizard, named Gandalf. Gandalf is accompanied by thirteen dwarves, one of these is Thorin Oakensheild, the King of the Dwarves after his father and grandfather died . The dwarves previously lived in the Lonely Mountain but the mountain was taken over by a gold hungry dragon named Smaug(the dwarves unfortunately had loads of gold). Gandalf and his company of dwarves are searching for a burglar to accompany them on their quest to recapture the Lonely Mountain. Bilbo is needed to steal the Arkenstone, the Dwarve Kings’ precious gem, that Thorin greatly desires.

Over the course of the book they encounter many different characters that will either help, but mostly wreck their quest. In my opinion, the book was really good but it took me a little bit longer to read than an average book, and I consider myself a pretty quick reader. However, I got lost towards the end when the focus of the book briefly left the dwarves and Bilbo to what was happening back in Dale. Overall I thought the book was amazing and I would totally recommend this to other fantasy reading fans.

Some Thoughts on the Movies…

The Hobbit does have three movies that go along with it but  READ THE BOOK FIRST. The movies actually followed the book very closely and I was very very surprised by that. I wish that the directors would have made it one movie, instead of three, but then again, that would have been an incredibly long movie. The movies were super realistic and that made the movies way more believable. The first time I watched the movies I got really scared( I jumped…several times ) at Gollum , he is a creepy,  sickly looking creature, and he just really scared me. I would for sure recommend this because it is well done and super realistic.
