Recently, an endangered red panda named Sunny escaped from the Virginia Zoo. She  was last seen at five p.m in her enclosure on Monday, January 23.

The loss of a panda usually doesn’t come as a shock in Virginia, but seventh grader Luke A. is very interested in this topic. Luke shares what we should do if we find Sunny.

“If anyone spots her, they should not pet her, they should call the Virginia Zoo immediately,” Luke said.

This is not the first time a red panda has been missing. On June 24, 2013, a red panda

named Rusty went missing from the Smithsonian’s National Zoo.

“Rusty the red panda escaped from its enclosure but luckily was shortly found in a nearby neighborhood,” Luke said.

Sunny is still missing but Luke has big hopes that she will be found.

“This red panda might be out there somewhere and we have to help find Sunny,” Luke said. “Sunny’s alive somewhere and I’m going to find her and I’m not giving up.”
