Running Away for a Victory
May 30, 2017
On Wednesday April 26th and Thursday April 27th, the seventh grade and eighth grade boys and girls track teams had their zone meets. Wednesday April 26th was the girls running events and boys field events, Thursday April 27th was boys running events and girls field events.
Seventh grader Sadie M. was apart of the 4×100, 4×200 meter relays, and the open 100m at the zone meet on Wednesday.
“I think I performed really well at zone, I improved on all of my times for my events,” Sadie said.
Eighth grader Jason G. ran the 4×400 meter relay, the open 800 and the open 400 at zone on Thursday.
“I felt I could have ran better in the 800, but overall I feel I ran pretty well at zone,” Jason said. “I felt tired while running but confident also in myself that I could finish strong.”
The difference between a zone meet and a regular meet is at zone they will keep track of your team’s points by what place you get in your running or field event. Seventh grader Trei L. explains what goes on at a regular track meet during the season.
“There are a bunch of people preparing for their events,” Trei said. “You also get to watch others run before and after you run your event, and there are field events going on while there are running events.”
Eighth grader Makenna H. feels more confident in her eighth grade year competing at the zone meet than her seventh grade year. “There are a bunch of schools at the zone meets,” Makenna said.
“Since I had gone to the zone meet last year when I was in seventh grade, I wasn’t too nervous this year, but there is still pressure since there are official judges, and it’s an official time for your event.”
Like Makenna, eighth grader Alexa P. had been to the zone meet her seventh grade year, and now her 8th grade year. She ran the 800m, 300m hurdles and the 4×400 on the Wednesday meet.
“This year I felt like I enjoyed the zone meet more,” Alexa said. “I was better prepared for this meet since I knew what to expect, and I knew how the atmosphere was.”
