The news is something that middle schoolers sometimes don’t think about. Some people are steered away from the news do to it’s frightening topics and over disputed politics. Some people use social media such as Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc as a source of news and information.Technology is a great way of receiving information about certain events. Other people tend to watch the news on the television or read about it online.  Seventh grader Alan Roth describes what draws them into watching the news.

“I do watch the news,” Roth said “The news is overwhelming. It creates a negative space in your mind.”

Roth believes that the news feeds the political fire. Different news channels tend to express their opinions while informing the viewers of certain topics. 

“[While watching] Fox News you can tell that it is mainly republican,” Roth said. “Certain news channels plant things in your mind that make you see things the way they want you to.”

 Kacey Sugrue shares their opinion on the political controversy created by different news channels.

“I watch The Today Show on NBC,” Sugrue said. No I don’t find the news to be bias. No I don’t find things over talked or undertalked.”

There are many different news channels that occur at different times of day. Some news channels are known to be bias towards different subjects or people instead of sticking to the facts. Student Ellie Corbett tells us what she likes about the news.

“I actually do watch the news,” Corbett said. “I like to be caught up in current events. I definitely do think that certain networks portray the news differently. For the same event you will see different sides to the story from different networks.”
