For many students, trying to land their newest trick is how they spend their free time. Students say skateboarding is fun activity to do with friends and a great way to stay active. House Park and Pflugerville Skate Park are popular destinations, but many students also skate in their own neighborhood.

Eighth grader Liam C. explains how he got interested in the activity.

“I started skating when I was five years old,” Liam said. “I got my first skateboard as a random gift from my parents. I just started rolling the board around, and I got hooked on skateboarding.”

Sixth grader Dylan J. has some wisdom to share with fellow skaters.

“My best advice is that you can’t quit no matter how hard the trick is. Just keep trying, and you’ll land it,” Dylan said.

There are some dangers associated with the pastime. Seventh grader Bailey T. tells about the skateboarding accident that put him on crutches.

“Last Saturday, I was skating across a crosswalk. A woman thought no one was coming, so she ran the stop sign and hit me with her car,” Bailey said.

Eighth grader Raymond H. shares a story about his own injury.

“My worst skateboarding experience happened at House Park. A guy ran into me, and his board actually went into my leg. I had to get ten stitches,” Aaron said.

Despite the risk, skateboarding is still a popular activity that many students take part in.
