Region Band Auditions

Region Band Auditions were held on November seventh from 8:30 pm – 5:pm at West Ridge Middle School to compete against different schools. Eighth grader Hope Arredondo and Seventh grader James Bautch describe to us how Region Auditions went.

Both Bautch and Arredondo are in Wind Ensemble, which is the highest band you can be in here at Gorzycki Middle School.

“We did songs Orian and Amen together as a band,” Arredondo said. “ On the

concert, we were perfect until one clarinet just blasted,” Arredondo said.

Arredondo tells us what school was her hardest competition, they competed against 6 middle schools and they thought they did pretty well. She tells us what she did to wow the judges.

Arredondo said,“West Ridge Middle School was the hardest competition because they had a lot more people than us.” “I played a strong whole note in the beginning to wow the audiences,” Arredondo said.

Arredondo describes to us what she had to do to get ready for the concert and the auditions. She tells us if she could’ve done better on the auditions and concert.

“I practiced scales everyday to get ready for regions,” Arredondo said.

“Yes I could’ve done better but I got first chair so I did pretty well,” Arredondo said.

Bautch plays the saxophone and explains how the saxophone did on the separate auditions. He also explains why he could’ve done better.

“All the saxophones were in one room and they were good because they placed top 10 of the region,”Bautch said. “I could’ve done better if I had practice more efficiently,” Bautch said.

Bautch describes to us what he had to do in order to make a good ranking, and he tells us his opinion in what piece he thought he did the best.

“I practice A-tudes and scales, part of it was together as a band and part of it was separately,” Bautch said. “I think i did best on my second A-tude because it was one of the slowest ones so I played it with dynamic,” Bautch said.

“We had a few wrong notes-other than that we were solid.” Bautch said.
