Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came out on Friday, May 5th. This is the second movie in the series, continuing the first movie Guardians of the Galaxy, which was a big hit gaining $773.3 million. This new movie features main characters Star-Lord, Rocket, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Yondu, Baby Groot, Ego, and Mantis. This movie is about Star-Lord and his friends being chosen by an alien race, called the Sovereign, who are attempting to keep their batteries safe from their enemies. When the Sovereign realize that Rocket has stolen some of the batteries, they attempt to hunt down the Guardians of the Galaxy. Meanwhile, the Guardians take shelter on Star-Lord’s dad’s planet, Ego. When Star-Lord is seeking the truth about his mom’s death, he discovers a dark secret about his father.

“I liked the way the action scenes played out,” eighth grader Eric B. said. “There was too much happening [to understand] though.”

While the two movies are in the same series, they have differences. For example, the second movie keeps most of the characters from the first movie, but also adds new characters. However, the story lines of the two movies are very different. The first movie is about Star-Lord and his fellow guardians beginning to work together to protect an orb that is a potential threat to the universe from the villain Ronan.

“In the first [movie], everyone hated each other for a while,” seventh grader Jonah W. said. “And in the second, they worked together most of the movie. Overall, both had pretty cool stories”

This movie definitely has a comical genre, as did the first movie. With both the action and comedy combined in the movie, you are almost guaranteed a good laugh. This movie has received great reviews, with an 8.1/10 from IMDb, a ⅘ from Common Sense Media, an 81% from Rotten Tomatoes, and another 8.1/10 from Metacritic.

“I would give this movie a 10/10 score because it was really funny and I liked all of it,” sixth grader Kendall G. said. “This movie had more comedy than most other Marvel movies.”

In this movie, all of the action took place in space while in most other Marvel movies, the action takes place in populated cities. With the space, it opens up the story.

“If you are a big sci-fi fan, this movie is definitely for you,” sixth grader Jake S. said. “I also prefer Marvel over DC, so when this movie came out, I had to see it.”
