ACL is one of the most known music festivals in the country. Each year, Zilker Park fills with hundreds of artists and almost half a million guests during two weekends in October. The 2017 lineup was released on May 4th and many opinions have been expressed about it. “I think it’s the worst lineup they’ve had for a while because there are hardly any rappers,” seventh grader Will W.

Student Mia W. has been to ACL six times and explains her opinion on the lineup compared to past lineups. “I think this lineup is ok, but it’s more directed to older people and it’s really bad compared to past lineups,” Mia said. “The best show I’ve ever seen was Drake in 2016.”

Throughout the 6 days of ACL, around 450,000 people come in and out of the festival. Some people go to see the more well-known bands and artists perform, while some attend to see the the smaller and less-popular performers.

“I’ve never been to ACL, but I always see advertisement and posts about it and I have really wanted to go,” eighth grader Amanda N. said. “But for being known world-wide, I would’ve thought they would get way better people.”

Chance the Rapper and Jay-Z, two very popular rap artists, will be attending the festival this year. There is a lot of excitement about their presence and many ACL guests are looking forward to seeing them as they are big-name artists.

“I don’t even know if I am going to go because I was really looking forward to it because there were rumors and then we got this. But I am looking forward to seeing Chance the Rapper,” Mia said.

Will explains who he is looking forward to see and his past ACL experiences. “I’m looking forward to see Jay-Z, but I would’ve liked to see more big name rappers,” Will said.

Many people who go to ACL go for the experience of seeing a rap artist or DJ perform. This year, the list has a very limited selection of those kind of performers. Many people are frustrated by this and are second-guessing their decision of going to ACL. Wilson explains who they would’ve liked to see on the lineup. “I would’ve liked to see Post Malone,” Mia said.

Before the release of the real lineup, many fake lineups went around. These brought hopes up by having a variety of big-name rappers. Amanda explained who she would’ve liked to see.

“I would’ve liked to see Lil Yachty and Steve Aoki. But I’m excited to see Chance the Rapper, Jay-Z, Russ, and D.R.A.M,” Amanda said.

More artists may be added to the lineup over the next few months. Buy your tickets online or learn more information about the festival at aclfest.com.
