Fortnite is a survival game developed and published by Epic Games. The game was released as a paid-for game available on Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 25, 2017.  Fortnirte is a free-to-play game released this year with over 3.4 million people currently competing to win the game. Seventh grader Patrick Kenney explains why he loves to play Fortnite.

“I like it because I get to play with all my friends and make kids rage,” seventh grader Patrick Kenny said. “It’s super fun and all the platforms can join.”

Fortnite offers many skins, dances, and accessories but almost all of them are only available through the process of buying V-Bucks, the games currency, with real money. There are many students that think spending the money is worth it. Kenny describes why he agrees Fortnite is a good game to invest in.

“I spent $20 to get the T-Rex skin,” Kenny said. “I think spending money is good so that people can show off.”

Although many people do think spending money on Fortnite is beneficial, eighth grader Cash Peters has a different perspective.

“I wouldn’t ever spend money,” Peters said. “Just buying skins to look cool is stupid and a waste of money.”

In addition, Fortnite has made many different game modes that come and go. The most recent would be the 50 vs 50, sniper only, and explosive only modes. There are also the basic modes including solos, duos, and squads that seem to stay in the game no matter what. Students explain what their favorite mode is.

“My favorite game mode is Solo because I think it is the easiest mode  to win on,” seventh grader Nic Lee said.

Fortnite also has a mobile version available on phones and tablets. It’s still the same 100-player game that’s on consoles and has the same gameplay, map, content, and weekly updates. There are many advantages and disadvantages to Fortnite mobile and students share their opinions on it.

“The graphics are bad and it’s always laggy,” Lee said. “I like playing on my PS4 Pro way better.”

Fortnite is definitely in contention for the most popular game of 2018 as many people love it and play it constantly.

“I think Fortnite is the best game of 2018 but I don’t think it will last, it will get old  and eventually everyone will stop playing entirely,” Kenny said.
